More than two months ago we made an appeal to help build the future of Stelvio for Life. We brainstormed about how we could make the upcoming edition bigger. And now, two months later, the world suddenly looks very different. The coronavirus has us in its grip. In this newsletter we would like to inform you about the status of the event Stelvio for Life.
Decision, no climb in 2020
During Mark Rutte’s press conference on 21 April, it became clear that major events in the Netherlands will be cancelled until 1 September. Travelling abroad is also not recommended when this is not necessary.
Developments in Italy
We have had intensive contact with the authorities in Bormio during the past period. Events have also been curtailed in corona-affected Italy. It is almost certain that the Bikers Day – the day the pass from the municipality is closed to motorised vehicles – will not take place this year.
Because we want to avoid risks for all involved, the board has had to decide to cancel Stelvio for Life 2020. That’s a great pity, not least because of the fact that we will of course continue to need a lot of money for the research we support financially.
Money for research remains desperately needed. That’s why we don’t sit still. In addition to all the hectics surrounding the coronavirus, we now have time to spare:
• to update the Stelvio for Life website and further integrate it with our app;
• keep our social media channels active;
• make more of us heard in a variety of ways.
After all, we can already start recruiting participants for the 2021 edition with the aim of making that edition an absolute hit both in terms of numbers of participants and revenue. Because we are looking ahead! So put Saturday 28 August 2021 in your agenda.
If you are already registered for the 2020 edition, your registration will automatically be postponed to 2021, including the registration and sponsorship fees that have been collected so far. Can you unexpectedly not participate next year? Send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
